1. Quick Detail :

In ceramic, CMC is applied as retarder, water-retaining, thickening and stablity.CMC is used for ceramic green body, glazing pulp and colored glaze in industry, it could strengthen toughness of shape, also enhance stability of glazing pulp.


2.Description :


The Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) is produced by chemical modification of cellulose, the most abundant polymer in nature and a major component of wood and cotton.CMC acts as thickener, rheology modifier, water retention aid, binder, dispersant, floating aid, etc. This wide range of properties makes CMC virtually useful everywhere water is involved in a process and more typically in ceramics, coatings, detergency, drilling fluids, food, mining, paper, textiles (sizing and printing)


3.Applications :


A. CMC for ceramics features uniform distribution of substituents (carboxymethyl group) on the cellulose backbone. It produces fewer gel granules in glaze formulation.

B. It contains no colored impurity and is 100% combustible under firing condition, to ensure clean ceramic glaze.

C. It can stabilize physical and chemical property of glaze formulation.

D. It can improve glaze adhesion and reduce glaze cracking.

E. It facilitates formation of a smooth dense glaze layer.

F. It can improve the rheological property of glaze formulation.

G. The glaze viscosity is proportional to the concentration of CMC added
